Call of Duty has a major problem with cheating

Like many games released in the last year or so, Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare and Warzone come with a built-in crossplay feature that allows PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC users to play together. This, on paper, is supposed to be a happy and glorious tool that brings us one step closer to a future where gamers are unified by their love of games, not driven apart by their choice of platform.

As you’re probably aware, crossplay allows PC, PS4 and Xbox One players to all play together in online matches, but as Eurogamer reports, those on consoles are finding they are being killed by PC folks who are using obnoxious cheating methods like wall hacks and aimbots.Cheating methods are easier to leverage on PC than on console, and the platform traditionally has bigger problems with cheaters because of this. But now, PS4 and Xbox One Warzone addicts are coming up against these nefarious types, so they are unsurprisingly turning off crossplay a result.

While cheaters can ruin any game, Warzone is particularly vulnerable with its battle royale format because you might be able to play 95% of a game normally, but all it takes is a single cheater making their way into a 150 person lobby and they can swipe a win from you in the final seconds of the game without you even knowing they were there the rest of the time.

Just last week, Infinity Ward confirmed that it had caught and banned no less than 70,000 cheaters since Warzone launched back in March. “We are watching. We have zero tolerance for cheaters,” the studio later tweeted.

In spite of this action, numerous console players are reporting on Reddit that cheating persists. There are stories of players who are able to get kills through walls, shots that automatically aim for the head, and other troubling issues. PC tends to be the worst platform for these kind of issues, as enabling such features on consoles is is way more difficult and infinitely easier for cheating detection software to track.
